Turning plans into actions
We’ve talked before about the campaign’s ultimate goals of opportunity, security and respect for all Disabled people.
That means access to meaningful and accessible work, free from discrimination and prejudice, for those who can work. A decent standard of living, whether in work of not, that reflects the real costs of disability. And a society that values all Disabled people.
We’ve spent some time over the last few months working out how best to achieve those goals – what we collectively need to do and how we do it. That plan starts with several things.
Steps towards opportunity, security and respect
First, we’ll bring on board more campaign supporters who have the motivation to get behind the campaign and make it more powerful and effective. And we’ll build alliances with wider social justice movements that share similar barriers to change.
We will build our relationships with the media to help make sure that the stories they cover about Disabled people are diverse and respectful and better centre Disabled people’s voices.
We’ll increase and deepen our engagement with politicians and policymakers to better influence short-term decisions that affect Disabled people’s lives and to lay the groundwork for longer-term change.
And we’ll connect with employers and employers’ representatives, and inspire leading employers to adopt inclusive, evidence-based recruitment, promotion and management practices.
Bringing more people on board
This is just the start. The most powerful thing you can do is to encourage the people in your life to sign up to the campaign. The more people there are behind the campaign, the more clout we’ll have and the better the chance of achieving our goals.
